The Grown Folk Group was organized in June 1991 to provide support and direction to CCT's Summer Day Camp. Members are determined to provide an atmosphere in which area youth have the opportunity to thrive. The Grown Folk Group aims to provide youth with what is lacking the deficient school system in hopes that they will ignore the low expectations society has for them. This group is currently expanding to provide a forum for area parents and young adults to turn their common problems into issues they can address as a group. The Grown Folk Group also provides workshops to members on healthy living, improving housing conditions and purchasing homes and support for teens as well as parents.

The mission of the Grown Folk Group is to help improve the quality of life of the families in our area. This includes supporting and nurturing our families. We believe that in order to be successful, we and our children must understand where we, as a people, have been. We believe that our history is full and rich and the future holds promise. To keep this vision clear and real, we will share our struggles with society, as a community. We will celebrate all of our successes, and not accept the defeat that this society would have us experience.
We will support each other as a community, accomplishing this by sharing knowledge and resources. As a group, we will make our presence known to all who deal with us and our young people, and we will be vigilant. Along with CCT and all other CCT auxiliaries, we will work to reach our full potential as individuals and as a group.

Members of the Grown Folk Group have spoken out on welfare reform at events such as the Hunger Rally, both attend and facilitate workshops on social issues, bring educational pieces denied to children including real sex education, and support the youth and help expand what they've been exposed to. The Group also addresses issues of single parenthood and domestic violence and provides a way to talk with one another about adult issues such as parenting skills.
